Inspired after a close family member passed away after a long battle with cancer, this project has been going since 2012 and uses computing power to calculate results to contribute towards cancer research.
Each server has free software installed called BOINC, this software enables the computing power to be donated towards various projects world wide including Mapping Cancer Markers from the World Community Grid.
Work is downloaded, processed and sent back to the grid and in return you are awarded points which help build a reputation.
Various dedicated servers are used exclusively for this project and as each year passes another server is added to the computing pool, the current setup includes:
- 4x Intel i5 CPU 750 @ 2.67GHz (4 cores, 4 threads each)
- 1x Intel Xeon E3-1220 V2 3.1GHz (4 cores, 4 threads)
- 1x Intel Xeon E5-16500 3.2GHz (6 cores, 12 threads)
